Farmers Market Etiquette, Regenerative Agriculture & more....
Podcast interviews with two amazing farmers
We couldn’t have all this outstanding summer produce without outstanding farmers, so I thought I’d pay tribute to two farmers I know and adore by highlighting the podcast interviews I did with them. Here, for your listening pleasure, Farmer Lee Jones and Farmer Jeff Bialas offer insights on everything from whole-plant eating, and regenerative agriculture, to farmers market etiquette.
Farmer Lee Jones, from the Chef’s Garden in Ohio, which his family has owned for decades and supplies produce for the best chefs in the country, encourages us to enjoy whole plant eating, from the root to the fruit. After listening to this you will be inspired to make the most of those often tossed-out carrot tops, broccoli stems, Brussels sprout leaves and more. He also enlightens us about regenerative agriculture and why he uses it on the farm.
Talking with a local farmer, and knowing the right questions to ask, can be beneficial on multiple levels, from ensuring you get the best quality produce, to creating community connections, and understanding the dynamics of your local growing region. In this episode, farmer Jeff Bialas, owner of J & A Farms in Goshen New York (where I’ve been getting my produce for decades) digs into the most helpful questions to ask a farmer, and he reveals a few important farmer’s market etiquette mistakes to avoid.
