Enjoying an energizing snack in the afternoon is a key well-being strategy for kids and adults alike. It can keep us adults from dozing off at our desks and getting hangry hours before dinnertime. For kids, an after-school snack is practically essential, as most kids come home hungry, needing fuel for their bodies and brains. These snack recipes are as fun as they are nourishing, made with colorful produce, nuts/nut butters and whole grains. Enjoy!
Apple Ring Treats

Apples cut into rings, then topped with peanut butter (or any nut or seed butter) make a canvas for an array of toppings, such as coconut, granola, dried fruit, crushed cereal or mini chocolate chips. Kids can mix-and-match toppings to decorate their own slices, so they will not only be fueling themselves healthfully, they’ll be having creative fun, too. They may just be the perfect after school snack, but they are great for grown-ups too.
Savory Cereal Snack Mix

This lip-smacking snack is a riff on the classic cereal party mix, with the same savory flavor, but made more healthful and satisfying, with olive oil, whole grain ingredients, and lots of protein-packed nuts, seeds and beans. It’s perfect for when you are craving something savory and crunchy.
PB and Grapes Wrap
Peanut butter and grape jelly are a classic combo, so it makes sense that peanut butter and fresh grapes would work together too. The fruit brings the same sweet flavor, but in a whole food, juicier package. Here the duo are rolled up together, with a hint of cinnamon, in a whole-wheat wrap bread for a fresh, fun take on a sandwich that will make both kids and adults smile.
